Currently FALL-ing (Towards Winter Break)

by Sarah on December 9, 2013 · 6 comments

So, I know once December hits, we automatically think it’s winter. December connotes winter, just like September connotes fall, even though fall doesn’t start until the end of September, and winter doesn’t start until the end of December. (For those of you suffering from ice storms and snow,I’m sure it feels a WHOLE lot like winter right now.

Since I’ve missed a month–maybe two–of currently posting, we’ll just call this…Currently FALL-ing (Towards Winter Break).

Current Outfit

This about sums it up.

IMG_20131107_133047

(That or workout clothes. I literally wear yoga pants and a Blend T-shirt; wash them; and then put them back on.)

Current Triumph

My ability to re-purpose leftovers, and actually using the food in my freezer and pantry instead of going to the store all the time.

I’m starting to find great joy in actually emptying my fridge at the end of each week.

This is leftover Chinese food and sticky rice combined with dry fried tofu–tofu I’d had in my fridge for months–and frozen stir-fry veggies.IMG_9426 (1024x683)

This is an impromptu chili made from leftover Chipotle catering pinto beans I’d frozen, frozen peppers, and half a jar of marinara.IMG_20131207_170143

That marinara became this vegan primavera bolognese made with homemade TVP sausage crumbles.IMG_9783 (1024x683)

Current Book

Considering the pile of highlighted and annotated journal articles littering my carpet (and kitchen table), it’s a miracle that I have time to read in the middle of finals. IMG_9114 (1024x683)

But I have been reading Amy Falls Down, and I love it. It’s a very interesting commentary on the state of writing and authorship and publicity in contemporary America.amyfallsdown

Current Music

greenriverordinance

Do yourself a favor and get this album, and any of the others before it. (The song “Dancing Shoes” in particular.)

Current Guilty Pleasure

The other music I have been listening to when NOT listening to Green River Ordinance.

If it’s a country-pop-rock tune with lyrics about back roads, fishing, trucks, and drinking…well, I  am  probably obsessed with it.

countrymusic

True story: One of the best parts about driving to Georgia for Thanksgiving was crossing the Flint River a la Luke Bryan’s catfish catching night.

 Current TV Show

Hallmark & Lifetime Holiday Movies.

(All Christmas, all the time.)HC_hp_mod_CD_Christmas_2013_3260

My current favorite is All About Christmas Eve starring Haylie Duff, Stephen from Laguna Beach,* Maya of Pretty Little Liars fame, and the dude who pays Will on Nashville.

*Yes, I did notice that Stephen was on Laguna Beach and Haylie’s sister Hilary sang “Coming Clean,” which was the theme song. Did you?

I was even willing to forgive the fact that at one point Haylie sits down in the middle of a snowstorm to take a phone call–seriously, who sits down in the middle of a snow storm?–and the strange scene where Haylie #1 holds up her hand to Haylie #2^ as though looking in a mirror or touching E.T.’s glowing finger for the first time.

^Yeah. This movie was also a little Sliding Doors in theme.

Current Favorite Celebrity Crush

OK, so he’s not really a celebrity per se, but the kid who plays Bert on Trophy Wife is my favorite character on TV right now.

“Bert-wheels?”

“Like cartwheels…but with screaming.”

Current Drink

Tea season has arrived!IMG_9795 (1024x683)

Current Food

Egg yolks.IMG_9329 (1024x683)

On everything.IMG_9720

(But mostly squash or foods with squash-like consistencies, such as sweet potatoes.)

Current Wish List

I have NOTHING on my Christmas list!

Any suggestions?

Current Indulgence

These incredible chocolate cookies made by Michelle for me as part of The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap.IMG_9754 (1024x683)

The ingredients are basically powdered sugar and chocolate.

So, yeah, they are amazing.

Current Excitement

I am thisclose to the end of my first semester in PhD land, and I have a trip to visit Laura in Atlanta on the agenda, as well as a visit to Wisconsin for Christmas where I will get to see Papa, Step Mama, Brother, Sister-in-Law, and Sister Smart.1441240_10151726784641851_478871946_n

We will try not to harm each other with fans, Mortal Kombat-style, like we did at Stepsister Smart’s wedding.

Current Bane of My Existence

Trying to translate almost everything I’ve been working on this semester into a clear, well-thought-out, theory-based literature review.IMG_20131113_154915 (854x479)

Current Feeling

phd110113s

Current Needs

Advice about favorite breakfast or lunch spots in Key West (!) or Charlotte–two weddings to attend over the holidays and some down time to maximize…

Current Blessing

Counting them!

Oh, and that when I went back to the gym after realizing my wallet/clutch wasn’t in my bag, it was still there!IMG_20131209_081332

Hooray for GA trips!!! I thought of you the whole way through Portland. I ate no less than 3 egg yolks each day. It was glorious.

I thought I was the only one in the world who wore her comfy clothes over and over again by washing them every few days. Good to know I am not the only crazy one!

I thoroughly enjoy your descriptions of…well everything, but the lifetime movies particularly made me smile.
The Mortal Combat fan photo is genius.

Brav-O on using up the ingredients girlie! I’ve been trying to do that for MONTHS now! I’ll get really good about it for a week and then I go and buy a whole bunch of produce over the weekend and forget all about my mission to clean out the freezer and pantry! #firstworldproblems

Congrats to almost being done with semester ONE!! Oh, even more exciting is that I didn’t mean to make that rhyme! ;) I think a day at the spa should be on your Christmas list…you deserve it!
