Broccoli with a Twist [and Ethiopian Food]

Part Two of Miss Smart’s Southern Midwest Road Trip concluded with a stopover in the greater Nashville area, where I may not have stumbled upon Raina James or Juliette Barnes at the annual charity polo match–nonashville

–but I DID stumble upon two much more important celeblogbrities: Broccoli Heather* and the Queen Bee Baker herself, Melissa.

*As distinguished from Veggie Heather.

Sarah-Melissa-Me (640x464)After catching up (and completely forgetting that despite our fairly frequent e-mails and texts, I’d never actually met Melissa in person before) we headed out for a new-to-me experience: Ethiopian food!IMG_20131102_194805_243 (1024x576)

Well, first we stopped by TJMaxx. Naturally.IMG_7693 (1024x683) (2)

Fun new coffee and favorite seasoning blendas opposed to the human kind (heehee)–aside, I was so excited to try out this new and, so I’d been told, delicious cuisine.IMG_20131102_194736_550 (1024x577)

I chose not to eat more than a smidge of sauce from the meat sampler , but I we attacked the veggie sampler with a determination (and newfound love for injera) perhaps never before witnessed* by the waitress.

*Seriously. The three able-bodied men seated next to us didn’t even get halfway through THEIR meal.IMG_20131102_200948_827 (1024x576)

[She probably also never encountered patrons who chose their table for its location directly under the light.]

The fun didn’t stop with the injeraIMG_20131102_194900_982 (1024x575)

Melissa and I clearly couldn’t go to sleep without attacking the Broccoli Box of SWAG.Swag (640x478)

I mean…how could I resist?

IMG_7699 (1024x683)The morning brought coffee and the chance to watch the Pancake Queen herself in action.IMG_20131103_091717 (1)

I must admit, the behind-the-scenes of the Broccoli blog was pretty phenomenal to witness.IMG_20131103_092339_659 (1024x576)

And while Heather certainly has a way with plating, the overdose of lentils from the night before (and the days in Louisville) did what they do to my tummy, and I had to take my Peachy Macaroon Pancakes to go–IMG_20131103_092429_498 (1024x575)

–and make a stop for a blood orange (!) kombucha at Whole Foods.IMG_20131103_115614_611 (1024x576)

However, I like to think I did the two (out of three) pancakes that made it all the way home justice.IMG_7739 (1024x683)

The only appropriate thing to do was cover them in Tennessee-made FROG Jam and a farm egg. Right?IMG_7746 (1024x683)
