Currently…(August)

As Sunday marks the start of Sep-PEMBER* (also known as the month of celebrating all things ME), I figured I better be a follower update all y’all on the current status of my life down here in Alabama. Oh the life of a PhD student, who has been up and down and over and under all summer long, but now is here for the foreseeable future…and gearing up to experience the religion of football this fall. (If I’m not stuck in the library.)

*My actual last name. In case you were confused.

UVA will always have my heart, but 'bama ain't half bad.

Currently Reading…

Biostats.

Or any of the various health planning and education-related journal articles I now find myself reading. For fun.

this was the first time i ever tried to be one of those people who read textbooks on the elliptical machine.

Of course, I have managed to take advantage of the fact that the public library is literally right next to my apartmentbuilding.

“]

super sweet coffee. super light reading. [love them both.

Currently Feeling (Not Very) Guilty About Taking Pleasure (In)…

Couponing.

The joy of using a coupon on top of a sale is a frugal foodie’s natural high.

Currently, My Nails Are Sporting..

SPARKLES! GLITTER!

Originally chosen for my stepsister’s wedding, I have since discovered how well they coordinate with dumbbells.

Currently Drinking…

Diet Barq’s Root Beer

Aspartame Schmaspartame.

This is the best diet root beer and you can NEVER find it, so I am taking full advantage of its appearance at Target.

Currently Eating…

Sandwiches.

I’ve been really into sandwiches.

Open-faced or not.

But always involving nut butter.

or nutty 'fluff'

Currently Watching…

The Great Food Truck Race

(And not just because I met Tyler Florence and he fell in love with me.)

Maybe it makes me nostalgic for Austin, maybe I just like food-related reality television, or maybe I’m just excited to have cable after years without it so I have to watch everything I couldn’t find elsewhere now…

…but I DVRed the entire last season’s marathon and watched it over the course of one weekend, and now am watching the current season with much joy.

Currently Crushing On…

(See: TyFlo in the photo above.)

Currently Wearing…

…as little as possible.

No, I haven’t taken up exotic dancing to fund my education.

by avoiding nike shorts and giantly oversized neon shirts, i can distinguish myself from the undergrads

It’s just dang HUMID here in Alabama, so I need to have shorts or dresses, and sleeveless and strapless everything to walk to class.

That being said, I am…

Currently Needing…

More cardigans, since the constantly blasting A/C and my natural tendency towards feeling like an icicle mean the humidity survival attire requires layering for success.

Oh, I also need this shirt.

Currently Listening To…

Whatever is on TV in the background.

Currently Feeling Triumphant Because…

I have become the best cornhole player in my family.

Currently Wishing That…

My family lived just a wee bit closer.

Currently Irritated By…

The fact that despite being so happy with and excited about my new PhD path, I still worry about the number of comments on my blog and if I’ve lost all of my readers because I’ve been too immersed in education (and crazy travel, moving, life) to read anyone else’s.

Currently Indulging In…

Excessive amounts of watermelon.

Current Slang (I’m Slingin’)

As I am now officially ‘a southerner,’ I’m letting the y’alls fly.

I secretly hope “bless her heart” and “fixin’ to” will naturally develop as well.

Currently Excited About…

So many opportunities to go to a farmer’s market here in ‘bama.

All of which require only a hop, skip, and a jump for me to visit.

 Currently Linking To…

The Atlantic Monthly

I want to read every article on the site. So varied. So interesting.

Currently Feeling…

Like the luckiest person in the world to get to read and write and converse and think and talk and challenge ideas all day long.

It looks like you’re settling in to Alabama quite nicely! (I can’t imagine the humidity there though, it’s bad enough here in Virginia!) I’m sure it’ll be absolutely lovely in the winter though! I hope things keep going well, Sarah!

Reading textbooks on machines at the gym is one of my past times! Sure they’re bulky and make me look like a klutz! But here’s to multi-tasking!!!! :)

That last pic made me shudder at bad stats memories.

When you come visit, we will play cornhole with my mom. She has custom made boards! Apparently that’s a thing?!

Ahh The Great Food Truck Race is my favorite show! I just checked out your ‘meeting Tyler Florence’ post again and it’s so funny. I’m sure he still thinks about you ;)

This post has confirmed three things for me:

1. I am very jealous of the PhD life you are living and hope to join you as a student within the next year!
2. I am very disconnected from pop culture as I have never heard of this The Great American Food Truck Race TV show you refer to…
3. I miss having you in Cville–especially on Saturday mornings.

While the idea of being a phd student is very intimidating…I like how you put it at the end…being able to talk and converse and challenge ideas (<–the last one sounds amazing to me haha).

So much to this post, but I am going to stick to one thing and complement you on your fashion…nails, shorts, bright gym shoes and CUTE dress! <3

I have been obsessed with watermelon, too. It’s getting a little out of hand… but that won’t stop me from buying another at the farmer’s market this weekend!

No worries, I’m still here. I’ll comment every day if you want me too. If it will make you feel better. Have a wonderful weekend and keep on writing when you can.

SO TRUE about the undergrad uniform! Glad I’m not the only one who picks up on it when I go back home. The funny thing is that those ensembles probably cost more than anything I own…

Oh I miss you!!! Don’t you worry about the blog. You are loved, and you need to do what is best for YOU! I’m so excited for this season in your life friend. Can I just live vicariously through you??

Oh and football season.. YES! Just don’t become a Bama fan on me…. you might just break my little heart? Should I send some orange stuff your way?? ;)

You know … Southern girls don’t sweat, they glow – enjoy those football games – it is a religion down there in LA.
