Confessions of a Blogaholic

by Sarah on March 10, 2013 · 9 comments

Sunday Confessions posts are the (blog) world!

[Or at least the part inhabited by Maria, Meg, and Katie.]

Once again, I’m unsatisfied with the simplicity and directness of a post title that is what it is, I’ve named these after a fun book, an OK movie, and a bit of pop culture I could play with on Power Point. [Also, many of these are about shopping. And I had the chance to hang another picture of Hugh Dancy in The Smart Kitchen.]

Although I have been shown a number of times how to use a French press to make coffee, I’ve never actually made coffee in one. Faced with massive power outages on Wednesday due to a snowstorm resulted in me successfully steeping some just-a-bit-hotter-than lukewarm coffee.

thank goodness for (hot) city water that keeps on running

Buying a new shower curtain liner made me far more happy than it should have. Buying this plastic Mason jar made me equally as happy. I don’t even carry around cold drinks when it is warm. I might have to start making smoothies after all.

I hate when I post two vertical pictures in a row and will normally try everything to avoid it.

It irks me when I’m trying to take pictures of a giant salad monster or breakfast oats–

–and the fruits and veggies I cut did not entirely separate when I threw them in the bowl. Apples and cucumbers, I swear, just like to stick together.

I couldn’t resist purchasing Band-Aids–excuse me, I mean adhesive bandages–intended for small boys. One of the many signs I sometimes feel like my heart is actually that of a ten-year-old.

I also now understand why kids make up reasons to need Band-Aids.

(I was going to just use the picture below, but I worried you might think I was making a rather derogatory gesture at y’all.)*

*Confession within a confession.

When I go to Richmond, I really consider it an excuse to go to Costco. And when I go to Costco, I really just consider it an excuse to stock up on this hummus and salsa.

Almost 10 months after I took my first Vinyasa class at Blend, and swore I was so inspired I was going to become a yogi, I finally took another class. And I’m hoping to take yet another one this afternoon.

i hate feet.

When I was younger, my family doctor would always ask me if I did hundreds of crunches every day because my ab muscles were so naturally strong. This has resulted in me never doing abwork (aside from a brief stint of Supermans in my first year post-college).

I have now, however, been occasionally doing Katie’s 20-Minute Upper Body and Ab Circuit on the days when I just want to read US Weekly elliptical. My abs say, “We weren’t as strong as you THOUGHT we were. Ha!”

As much as I love the bottom-of-the-bag cereal crumblies, I love the finer cereal dust even more. The way it caramelizes on yogurt, or flavors your milk…my eyes are rolling in tastebud heaven just thinking about it.

The cereal dust in this photo is from three different bags I actually saved for a week until I decided it was the perfect time to use it.

I have a number of posts I want to write, but they aren’t necessarily about food, and I can’t think of what pictures I would use to accompany them. As I know many people don’t read blog posts without a good number of pictures, I don’t write them

I do, however, wonder if randomly putting in a picture of something I ate in between deeper thoughts would suffice.

Unless you are an actual friend-through-blogging [slash] more-than-blend of mine, I don’t read blog posts without a good number of pictures.

Although my Sweet Potato Socca Naan was admittedly one of the best recipes I’ve come up with yet…

my brilliant plan to “roll them out and cook them later” was not so brilliant.

I just never really know the best way to reveal giveaway winners. I like to think of each of my posts as a stand-alone little nugget of fun, so unless I can find a natural way (or at least not extremely tangential) way of incorporating it into my posts…I just never choose winners. But I had a giveaway. For Nutty Butter.

I think this new trend I’ve noticed of people referring back to the previous giveaway post to find out the winner has something to do with increasing blog ‘hits’ per day or something. I am too lazy to go back and edit a post for that. So, the winners are….

confession: i HATE when people link back to the original blog post to announce the winner. i.m.o. – total plot to gain more pageviews for that day.

LOVE this!!! And I’m so excited you love that circuit so much. I should go back and do it again this week and give my abs a kickin’!

My confession is that I didn’t post today and the break feels sooooo good sometimes. :)

I hate feet, too! 😉 And for produce that sticks . . . zucchini drives me crazy!! Separate, gosh darn it!

I need that mug. It looks perfect for lemonade and sweet tea.

You were AMAZING at your Blend yoga class. A real natural. So I’m happy that you are perfecting your practice 😉

I say you blog about a deeper subject, even if it doesn’t have a bunch of pictures. I’d be curious to get a deeper peek into that brain of yours! 😉

You were a true yogi at Blend. I haven’t taken a yoga class since Blend, and I wish I had! I need to come visit you and take a yoga class. 😉

im obsessed with crumblies and get mad because i don’t eat my cereal fast enough and half the time it goes stale and i have to throw it away.

confession: i make my own crumblies and dust by just crushing up the cereal.

ps. i thought i was the only one who loved or maybe even noticed that they soak up the milk and thought it was pretty much magic in my mouth.

also, can i pretend to be jeffrey and say i won your giveaway? thanks.

Heather @ Better With Veggies March 11, 2013 at 2:20 pm

I write posts without pictures a lot when they aren’t food – then I think about what might make sense to add and make it pretty later. You can create a new image on or look for quotes or pics that are pretty to add on pinterest. At least that’s what I’ve done. :)

Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli March 13, 2013 at 8:56 am

I only link back to the previous post because I use Rafflecopter for all my giveaways…which really, you should look into girlie! Please tell me you’re not manually counting to find the winners each time!

Please please puh-leeeease don’t post random pictures that have absolutely nothing to do with your blog post…I like pictures, but I hate it when people do that…I get so distracted and then started having a conversation with myself trying to figure out just WHAT made them thing that these pics have anything to do with their post…and then…well, hell, then I forgot what I was reading about to start with! Lol If anything, pull pics from the internet with sayings and stuff…because I DO understand the need for breaks in writing to hold the audience’s attention. And I WOULD really like to “hear” what you have to say! :)

PS, the concept of a French press is completely foreign to me…pun totally intended! 😉
