Buncha Qrunch [Giveaway]

by Sarah on March 21, 2013 · 39 comments

The only reason I am allowing myself to purposely use the word buncha in the title of this post is because despite my general abhorrence of misspellings and grammatical inaccuracies in product labeling and advertising, I figure changing “a bunch of” to buncha was OK since the product I am about to talk to you about is misspelled also…and I like it.

What is that product, you ask?

Qrunch Burgers!

I was contacted by the good people at Qrunch Foods to sample and review these quinoa-and-millet-based burgers.

Always a fan of a good veggie burger–especially one that actually packs protein like a good meat burger ‘substitute’ and isn’t just a bunch of vegetables mashed together for me to then crumble up on MORE vegetables*–

*Do I ever actually eat my burgers on buns?

not that i don't find you one of the most tasty manufactured veggie burgers of all time, mr. don lee veggie patty from costco

–I was eager to give the Qrunch burgers a ‘go.’

And I vowed not to just crumble them up on salad.

OK. After the first one.

and i actually CUT it. not crumbled. so...ha!

Despite not being as flavorful as my other (manufactured) favorites, these Qrunch burgers toast up astoundingly well in the toaster oven, allowing them to live up to their name.

(And when I say “not as flavorful” that certainly doesn’t mean you won’t feel some heat from that Spicy Italian…)

Remember chicken patties from middle school?

Well, the outer ‘crust’ of the Qrunch burger is cornmeal-esque, like that, but with a not-too grainy texture inside, so the whole effect is almost like eating a hush puppy! [That, y’all, is a VERY good thing.]

Granted, as they are super grain-based (not a bad thing), they can be a bit dry. Putting on a bun (or bread)–even if I wanted to–wouldn’t necessarily be a good plan.*

*Unless you had a TON of ketchup waiting for me. [And a tomato. Because I like tomatoes AND ketchup on my burgers, thankyouverymuch.]

mustard, HP sauce, relish, and sauerkraut help too. :)

Putting it on top of some of the Ezekiel 4:9 Flax Bread (that I reviewed yesterday) was WAY too much of a dense, carb-heavy situation, and I ended up having to divide and conquer.

Gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free, nut-free, corn-free, wheat-free…I’m pretty sure they fit into almost anyone’s diet. [Except maybe paleo…?]

And now, COST-free, too. At least for one of you. :)

That’s right, now YOU can try out the Qrunch burgers for yourself.

To enter this giveaway, simply tell me how you would prepare and serve a Qrunch burger.

[Now that I’m flirting with eggs in my diet again, I’m thinking a runny yolk might be just perfect with these…]

Well they sound interesting, and I would absolutely top them with a fried and runny egg. Maybe some fresh crispy spinach and some tomato slices (when they are back in season) and you’d be good to go.
Happy Qrunching. .

Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers March 21, 2013 at 7:14 am

Hush puppies?!? Mmmmmm. haha These sound great. I’d probably throw them on a sandwich thin or bake sauce and cheese on them like lil’ pizzas.

sara March 21, 2013 at 7:56 am

I’d def toast ’em up, as I’m a bit fan of the crispy edges like you..then I’d maybe cut em into strips for some lettuce wraps..aka portable salad? topped with some hummus or some sorta sauce of course :)

Liz @ iheartvegetables March 21, 2013 at 8:03 am

I’d probably pop it in the toaster oven and then top it with marinara sauce!

Danielle @ itsaharleyyylife March 21, 2013 at 8:05 am

burger style for sure!

Danielle @ itsaharleyyylife March 21, 2013 at 8:06 am

I tweeted!

Katie @ Talk Less, Say More March 21, 2013 at 8:13 am

I wanna try! I wanna try ’em! I’d probably put them on a salad – that’s my favorite way to eat a veggie burger. Or on a bun with a lot of avocado….mmm!

Fran@BCDC March 21, 2013 at 8:38 am

These look very tasty. I’ll have to look for them.

Missy March 21, 2013 at 10:00 am

Totally crumbled over a salad. I need protein and other “stuff” in my salad if I’m going to eat my veggies!

Alexandra March 21, 2013 at 10:01 am

Yum!! I have Celiac disease and cannot eat gluten so these are perfection! I’d top them with lots of avocado and ketchup!

Caroline March 21, 2013 at 10:59 am

YUM! crumbled over a huge summer salad sounds wonderful!

Caroline March 21, 2013 at 8:22 pm

…with salsa, I might add. I put salsa on EVERYTHING! haha

Cari March 21, 2013 at 11:26 am

Always cool to try something new! Quinoa + veggie burger= good combo :) To start, I think I’d go traditional sandwich style on a Trader Joe’s everything bagel thin with some avocado, onion, sriracha, and nutritional yeast :) yum!

Haley @ fullnfit March 21, 2013 at 12:08 pm

Mustard. Lots of mustard. :)

Jacqui March 21, 2013 at 12:42 pm

I would love to try these on a rosemary and olive oil bun with some good melty cheese!

Carla March 21, 2013 at 12:44 pm

Probably over a spinach salad with butternut squash and cranberries.

Tori L March 21, 2013 at 1:49 pm

I’d probably also crumble it on top of a salad with both ketchup and tomatoes!

Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate March 21, 2013 at 2:01 pm

I love putting veggie burgers on top of salads, buns are so overrated. And a runny egg would just make it they much better.

Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl March 21, 2013 at 5:50 pm

Quinoa burgers?? Those sound amazing!! I would either serve mine on a bun or top a salad with it. I stay pretty traditional with my “veggie” burgers.

Elissa March 21, 2013 at 7:01 pm

A couple of times week I make a bunch of sauteed spinach with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, then heat up a black bean burger and put it on top. I love quinoa so I bet these burgers are amazing!

Kate March 21, 2013 at 9:53 pm

I would dress it up with BBQ sauce and avocado and eat it with a side of sweet potato fries!

Ria March 21, 2013 at 9:53 pm

These look yummy! I’d toast it in the oven, top it with salsa and enjoy with a side of avocado and some greens. Thanks for hosting a giveaway!

Kelly O-ski March 21, 2013 at 10:19 pm

I’d probably serve the burger fairly conservative-like. Ya knooooow. On Ezekiel bread, though!

Ashley @ Freckles & Spice March 21, 2013 at 10:36 pm

These look awesome – honestly I’ve seen then around but I thought they were same as the very processed “quorn” brand so I never really gave them a second look. Your hush puppy and the middle school spicy chicken patty descriptions may be the reason I go try these.

Natalie S March 21, 2013 at 10:50 pm

I would toast this up and serve it with some roasted potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, and ketchup!

Ttrockwood March 21, 2013 at 11:08 pm

These sound awesome!!
I would chop up and eat in lettuce wraps with hummus gobs, guacamole and chopped tomatoes… ( there may be some ketchup too…!)

Meghan March 21, 2013 at 11:09 pm

I would serve one with ketchup, my favorite condiment!

Alina March 21, 2013 at 11:33 pm

I would definitely toast it in the oven and top off a salad or veggie stir fry with it! YUM thanks for the giveaway!

Devon McKain March 21, 2013 at 11:55 pm

I would definitely put this burger over a salad! That’s my favorite way to eat any kind of veggie burger! They look delicious! I would love to try them!

sarah March 22, 2013 at 12:23 am

Spread with good stuff on top – avo, hummus, goat cheese, nut/seed butters, drippy eggs, preserves…you know , the usual.

Rachael S March 22, 2013 at 10:18 am

With a whole wheat bun with roasted red pepper hummus :)

Brittany @ Delights and Delectables March 22, 2013 at 5:24 pm

pretty sure that I’ll be able to eat these!! Woo-hoo. I would grill these bad boys up and put tons of spicy mustard and avocado on them! YUM!

Danica @ It's Progression March 23, 2013 at 10:45 pm

I’m impressed with the ingredients in these! I would love to make on stovetop and then add it to a salad!

Brooke March 24, 2013 at 11:15 am

On a salad, with my homemade dressing – I bet the spicy Italian would be amazing on a bed of arugula and avocados!

Kim Brown March 24, 2013 at 11:38 am

OMG…These are the best “veggie” Burger I have ever had straight from my toaster! The Italian really has a punch of spice…I’ve enjoyed them over salad and with a little homemade mayo, tomato, and pickles! One patty is all you need as it is very filling! A great evening meal without being too heavy.

Kim Brown March 24, 2013 at 11:40 am

I tweeted also…by the way they are not the easiest to find as not many stores carry them yet but soon I am guessing it will be for another reason as they are really that good!

Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli March 25, 2013 at 5:09 am

Oh yes, a runny yolk would DEFINITELY be happening with this…and some ketchup…and maybe a little hot sauce! 😉

Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli March 25, 2013 at 5:11 am

I ta-ta-tweeeeeeeeeted! <- how's that misspelling for ya? Is your eye twitching? 😉
