Do you remember where you were when you first learned that scat meant animal droppings?
Yeah. Me neither.
(Who would remember that? I mean…unless you stepped in it while just happening to be in the middle of a naturalist-led hike with your Girl Scout troop when you were seven or something.)
I do, however, remember where I was when I first learned about Scat! Bars.
Thanks to Instagram,-you know you love it–I can refer to the above photo as the exact moment I stumbled upon this ‘never before heard of’ bar while in the Adirondacks for Mama Smart’s wedding this past summer.
Because I’m cheap rather frugal, I decided not to purchase any of the bars, and yet, I couldn’t get them off my mind. So, I did what any overly eager food blogger would do and e-mailed the owner of the company.
I was, understandably, blown away (Carrie Underwood-style) by Susie’s generosity. She mailed me three cases of Scat! Bars–one of each flavor–
*Do we love the Kashi-esque use of exclamation points in her branding? Yes. Yes we do.
-plusa bag of Morning Rhythm ganola, ‘Wake-Up Call’ Scatterings!*, AND a sneak preview of the soon-to-be-released Bobcat Bar: walnut, hemp, strawberry, coconut, and ginger.
Upon receiving my surprisingly large shipment of the kind of scat you’d want to eat, I had an impromptu tasting in my bedroom.*
*which is where I have to keep all of my excess food since there isn’t enough room in our pantry #foodbloggerproblems
I couldn’t get over the giant chunks of nuts and fruit–like the dried cherries shown above–or just, quite simply, how ‘I can see every ingredient and know exactly what I am eating’ natural the bars were.
And then I tasted the granola.
Every bite of evey bar had been causing a serious dance party in the rompus room of my tastebuds, but one taste of this took things to a whole new place.
More savory than sweet–which is how I like it–this Morning Rhythm Granola is something else…the ingredient list is substantial and enticing, and I think it might be the addition of nutritional yeast (something I’ve never seen in a packaged granola…or any granola at all) plus a smidge of butter* that really nuances the flavor.
*vegan with benefits
I pretty much want to eat this stuff by the handful, and am now down to only the crumblies at the bottom. (Not that that doesn’t excite me.)
Similar to granola in texture–but entirely unique in flavor–are the Scatterings, full of almonds, dried cherries, and chocolate covered coffee beans.
While I have not consumed enough at once for it to be entirely electrifying, this ‘wake up call’ blend does provide a jolt of sweetness when sprinkled on an oatshake…
…or mixed into applesauce or yogurt.
I’ve been working my way through them (too) slowly, usually no consuming them in the ‘meal replacement’ fashion which they could be used, but instead taking half of one for a snack to school…or crumbling some up on top of my breakfast.
It is hard to say which one I like the best. I love the Bear for its blueberry maple combination–one I admire in peanut butter as well–
But did you know Moose scat has dark chocolate in it? And cherries? And while chocolate covered strawberries may get all the tabloid coverage, cherries paired with chocolate are the seductive off-Broadway talent soon to be featured in an indie film hit near you.*
*I don’t know where that metaphor was going. Or where it went.
But the one that initially caught my eye was the Squirrel–for its combination of sesame seeds, peanuts, and cranberries, which reminded me of my long lost favorite flavored peanut butter–the now discontinued Vanilla Cranberry peanut butter from Archer Farms.
I am in love with them all. If you follow me on Instagram–and if you don’t, why aren’t you?–then you’ve seen the Scat! Bar goodness showing up pretty darn consistently in my superfluous amount of oatmeal and yogurt bowl photographs.
It’s a small company, growing and growing in the Northeast, and part of the joy I have as a blogger is being able to help spread the word–and the goods–to other people as interested in whole food yumminess as I am.*
*Usually. When I’m not craving Lucky Charms or Diet Coke or something.
I clearly need help consuming all of these bars.
So, I’m going to give some away!
I will choose not one, not two, but THREE winners to help taste and (tw)eat the three varieties of Scat! Bars on the market.
To enter, simply leave a comment telling me which of the three animal droppings you are most excited to try, and also come up with your own scat-tastic animal creation (including which animal inspired you).

The Moose scat sounds heavenly! There is nothing better than dark chocolate and cherries but the Scatterings with the chocolate covered coffee beans added in are quite intriguing. I’ve got to get my hands on these!
How about some Chippy (Chipmunk) scat – peanuts with dried wild blueberries, chia and dried orange bits. Yum!

@bliss_todd
Moose!
I love the sound of the bear droppings! I cant get enough of dried blueberries and I’m the person that orders pancakes JUST for the maple syrup!! I would defintiely make a panda dropping bar with lemon and ginger!
YUM! those all sound amazing, although I’d probably have to go with Bear.
I love me some mango, so what about a mango hazelnut ginger bar? Its pretty exotic, so I’d try to come up with a super random animal to name it after…maybe a lynx? or probably a tiger since its orange
You have made me want to try these so bad!
The bobcat bar sounds super tasty!

Bear Droppings would be tasty for breakfast! Moo-Moo Droppings would be fun filled with vanilla flavoring & white macadamia nuts! Yum!
Bear! Oh the bear sounds so so good! I’d make a marmot scat (yeah, I don’t know, first animal that popped into my mind) and it’d have orange and dark chocolate and almond… Hmmm… I may have to try this one out… Anyways, thanks for the giveaway and for sharing about what looks like amazing deliciousness!
I wanted to try the moose flavor. Yay for dark chocolate!
I would want to try Squirrel and Moose. Bear is probably delicious but I am not a huge maple fan so the other two flavors sound more appetizing to me. There are sooo many animal ideas I could come up with. Some sort of Monkey Scat with bananas would be fabulous!
“Moose” sounds suuuuuper good. I might want to try bird scat, with some dark chocolate and (vegan) marshmallow-type concoction. Doesn’t that eerily resemble bird poop? haha.

The Scat! Bars look delicious and so does the granola. Great Name! If I had to choose I think I would pick either Moos or Squirrel…hmmm….sounds like an episode of Rocky and Bullwinkle!! Hope I win! Thanks, Sarah!!
The Bear sounds really good–blueberries with pumpkins seeds, interesting combo! …I would love any new bar that has a peanut butter and fruit combination–wins me over every time.
I’m now following Scat! bar on Twitter!
just tweeted about the giveaway! (@Danica_ipnp)
Gotta go with Bear Droppings! Yum I LOVE Blueberries and for my Scat creation – How about MeowScat! My black little kitty inspired me and filled with all my favorite things – dates, figs, cranberries, walnuts and cashews!
I am super excited to try the Squirrel bar! My own creation would have to be a wolf bar, because I truly love wolves and their ‘majesticness’ (is that even a word?). In it I would put all my favorite things… cocoa roasted almonds, maple flavor, some espresso beans, and raisins!
I would love to try the Moose. And then it would be fun to have a Buffalo – milk chocolate, peanut butter, honey, orange peel, and pecans!

I also liked Scat! bar on FB.
And I already follow you on Twitter!
They all sound great but the moose has dark chocolate so I’d have to pick that one!
How about a kangaroo bar? And it would have to be peanut butter based…
And I liked Scat on fb!
Moose because of the cherries and dark chocolate!
Bear, Moose, and Squirrel sound amazing!! I’d love blueberries, cherries, sesame seeds, and dark chocolate in my own magical creation!!
Mmmm the Moose bar sounds delish! Theya all sound so good. I would personally make a kittty scat! bar, filled with peanut butter, peanuts, dried apple pieces, and a heafty amount of cinnamon!

I am definitely interested in the moose! Chocolate and cherries are delish
. I think antelope scat! would be good, it needs to have shredded coconut
Squirrel Scat sounds amazing. <– never thought I'd say that.
One of these days I will win one of your fantastic giveaways. Will this be the day?
Oh my gosh, FINALLY! I’ve seen enough of your IG uploads to know these are pretty flippin’ fantastic, but oh gosh, how do I choose a favorite?? I guess, I’d have to say the Bear is calling to me…blueberry and maple…mmmm! But that’s ONLY because the Bobcat hasn’t made it to the shelves yet…strawberries, ginger, AND coconut?! Oh dear, I may faint just thinking about it!
As far as my own “scattastic” creation, I’m gonna go with…carrot (can you do that in a bar? you can in my perfect world!), raisin, ginger, cinnamon, almond…of course inspired by the rabbit!
I follow Scat on Twitter!
I like Scat on Facebook!
Of course I already follow YOU on Twitter, but I tweeted as well…and got a good giggle out of that too!
They all sound yummy! Moose interest me because of the chocolate!! I’d love to try them all.

Moose scat sounds the best to me! (And who thought that sentence would ever be typed?)
Bear!
I love the squirrel bar! I think he needs a raccoon friend bar!
Moose!! Both because it sounds delicious and also so I can say I’m eating Moose Scat.
The moose scat pairing of chocolate and cherry just speaks to me… but second place is squirrel! I think my own creation would be peanuts, sunflower seeds, dried pineapple bits, oats, and cranberries. This would be my Bambi mix

Following you on Twitter and tweeted about the giveaway!
The Chocolate Moose sounds tasty. As for my own creation – peanuts, almonds, dark chocolate chips, pretzel pieces, and dried cranberries (similar to a Clif Mojo Mountain Mix Bar – I’m not that creative on my own). I’d probably say its inspired by a Bobcat, just cause I love cats.
Wow. These sound incredible. I’m torn between Moose and Squirrel! As for a new one, I love the Chipmunks in my neighborhood, so maybe that, which might be a pumpkin & pecan bar.
Mmmm these look so good!! I’d love to try the bear. And what about a horse bar—-oats, carrot, and dried apple bits : )
I follow scat bar on twitter!
Mmmm, Moose would be my top choice!
How about a Wise Owl flavor — raisin, walnut, apple, caramel with a touch of sea salt.
The Moose sounds delicious!
I’d have to create the monkey with some bananas, peanut butter and maybe a little chocolate.
