Sprinkles are AWESOME.

by Sarah on August 10, 2012 · 176 comments

So lately I’ve been a little obsessed with sprinkles.Which is fine. Because sprinkles are, in fact, awesome.*

*So it fits with the Friday summer series of Things That Are Awesome I’ve been working so hard to maintain. In addition to more “normal” uses…like, perhaps, on top of a Soyummi Dark Chocolate Pudding cup……I started getting a little more ambitious with the sprinkling.

Chobani, meet Sprinkles.

And really yogurt is just one step away from frozen yogurt which is just one step away from ice cream, and that’s definitely a ‘normal’ place to get sprinkled.

But oatmeal? That was probably taking it a little too far.

funfetti oatmeal, anyone?

I’m sure you aren’t surprised, then, that it didn’t take long before I looked into food processor bowl and thought–

—I wonder what would happen if….?

Birthday Cake Nutty ButterJust in time for my 28th tomorrow.

A cashew-and-almond base (that’s right, no peanuts!) with rich vanilla flavor and buttery undertones….it’s like birthday cake and sugar cookies were churned up into nut butter and smoothed into a jar.

Yep.And if you are thinking, “So now you are giving some away, right?”

Well, you’d be wrong.Just kidding. Of course I’m giving some away. :) Happy Birthday to me YOU.Now, if only we had a smaller birthday crown.

Ohhhh I so want to try this one. No real birthday traditions but I do have a favorite cake. Since I LOVE birthdays and cake and scary things when I turned 40 x yrs ago I had a local baker do a cemetery cake – complete with tombstones, black cats and a vampire penguin. Flavor rocked to – hazelnut cake, chocolate filling and pistachio frosting. I think she even has a tombstone that said Youth – hehehe

I’ve never been a big fan of sprinkles, but the blogosphere seems pretty obsessed! And over time, they’re definitely growing on me – they *are* quite pretty. The nut butter, as always sounds delicious :) My favorite birthday tradition is that my parents always decorate the living room while I’m asleep, so when I wake up and come down on my birthday, the coffee table/fire place are covered in presents, there’s however old I just turned taped to the wall, a ‘Happy Birthday’ sign hanging across the mantle, and birthday balloons everywhere! The best birthday cake I’ve ever had (I like birthday cake flavored stuff, but not the actual traditional cakes so much) was probably a Great Harvest baked good square topped with ice cream. :)

It’s true: sprinkles are just plain fun :) . I think one of the best birthday cakes I’ve ever had was the one my mom made me this past year– it was a tiramisu angel food layer cake, and it was DELICIOUS. So much amaretto-espresso-chocolate-fluffy goodness :)

Birthday tradition and cake is the same – My sister HATED coconut – and I never got it, so I always asked for German Chocolate Cake for my birthdays… now that we’ve been vegan for 4 years, my wife has done wonderfully at getting me German Chocolate Cake (or cupcakes) for each birthday!

My favorite birthday tradition is to get my son to take me backpacking on the AT. He hasn’t figured out that my favorite part of hiking miles in the hot August sun, carrying 30+ pounds on my back , is the undivided, extended time I get to spend with him. Love my children, all of them!

The best birthday cake that was mine was a chocolate chip cookie cake from a little vegan cafe in my city. The best I ever made (ahem so far) was a chocolate cake with chocolate peanut butter frosting for my dad’s birthday. The cutest I ever made were vegan funfetti cup-cones I made for my baby sister, and the best that was ever (not) mine was when my friend made vegan carrot cake cupcakes for *her* sweet 16 just so *I* could have one :D

Oh my goodness that looks delicious I love sprinkles too. The only real birthday tradition we had was receiving a homemade dessert from my grandmother. My favorite cake that she made only for birthday’s was a yellow butter cake with chocolate fudge icing. I love buttercream of course but I’ve never tasted icing like hers before or since. It almost hardened on the cake so that it became like fudge but then the icing touching the cake stayed soft and gooey. I’ve tried to recreate it using a boiled icing recipe but they never have that deep chocolate flavor that her icing had. My grandmother is still living although she is unable to cook nowadays, she made many happy birthday’s for me. Your ice cream sundae dessert is a great idea for a birthday, I may request that for my birthday next year.

Not cake at all–I don’t like cake! (So nutty butter is perfect–hint, hint!) We would have cookie cakes and ridiculously rich flourless chocolate confections growing up. Yum!

My favorite birthday tradition is spending it with my family! There’s nothing like a fun trip to Boston to get the celebrations going. Oh, and sprinkles. Of course they are always involved!

Happy Birthday!!! My favorite birthday tradition is to have the most random birthday dinners – usually involving a whole watermelon and a spoon plus random sides like smoked salmon or almonds. :)

Best birthday cake I’ve ever had was probably the cake I made for my MIL last summer. I’m not trying to brag because it wasn’t my recipe or anything. But man, was it good! It was moist and chocolatey and amazing!

Ooo yummy flavor! Sprinkles on everything sound like a fab way to celebrate your birthday at every bite :) I don’t really have a tradition for my birthday other than eat something delicious, haha.

My favorite birthday cake was a giant red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. It was a layer cake and incredible. Truthfully, though, my favorite cake of all time is carrot cake, so I’m not sure why I never request it for my birthday. Now that I’m thinking about it i’ll definitely do that this year! Yum

I do not have birthday traditions either. But perhaps gelato instead of a birthday cake? You see I have issues with leftover cake as in I have to consume it ALL!! Gelato — well you cant bring home the leftovers. Happy Birthday!

Hello, Birthday Twin!

Favorite birthday tradition? I was born at 2:15 p.m. on August 11th, 1981 – for the past 31 years my mom says (either in person or via phone call) Happy Birthday, Baby Girl at that exact time. Cheesy, yes, but I like it :) .

The best birthday cake I ever had was at my 5th birthday party. It was a Stop & Shop vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and it had a kick a** painting of She-Ra Princess of Power on it. Oh, yeah.

My favorite birthday cake ever is the Death by Chocolate cake from Greggs. I used to ask for it for my birthday every year when I was younger. It’s SOOOO chocolately and rich.
