Memorial (Day) of the Shore

It’s Memorial Day!

Am I excited for the holiday...or the fact that there are only 8 1/2 days of school left? You decide.

As you read this, I’m on my way back from the beach……where I spent a lot of time with these people.

Sister-In-Law & Brother Smart

And this person.

Weirdness runs in the family.

This Memorial Day Weekend adventure is always a bit crazy, since I wake up at 4 AM on Saturday to arrive by noon, then turn around and drive back to Virginia early on Monday morning.

But it’s always worth it.

Awkwardness also runs in the family.

If only to get to see Papa Smart consume a slice of pizza the size of his head.

Or discover a life changing contraption that you did, in fact, spend an excessive amount of time searching for on the internet (in the middle of writing this post) but balk at the initial price quotes and decide that one day–one day–you’ll figure it out.

So, as you read this, I am most likely imaginarily fulfilling my lifelong fantasty of being a Broadway singer while driving in my car and spending this Memorial Day with memories of the beach.*

*And the millions of men and women who died for our country. Obviously.Memories of diverting from my vegan ways in order to consume this Hot Seafood Caesar Salad, covered in fresh crab meat, sauteed shrimp and scallops, and the most delicious soft-yet-crispy croutons.

Worth every "my stomach is angry" moment that followed.

Memories of finishing a spontaneous Sister Smart 7K along the boardwalk and coming home to introduce Sister Smart to a little yoga pose I like to call “Lying on the Floor for a Second.”

Memories of finally being able to check “make homemade ice cream” off of my Culinary Bucket List!

I find it appropriate that it was Peanut Butter Cup.

And trust me. It was really hard work watching that ice cream maker turn.

And who could forget how the Smart family polished off all of these veggies in less than 15 minutes?

So this Memorial Day, I hope YOU make lots of memories

…and if nothing else, I hope you remember there is still time to enter to win some Nutty Butter. Because I started a business. Weird.

Couldn’t you put your nut butter in a mason jar, buy a pump like this, cut it down to the proper length, cut a hole in the mason jar lid, and strap it down somehow? It won’t be pretty, but it also won’t cost three figures!

Haha you are so freaking awesome. I’m jealous of your shore adventures!!! I had a very low key weekend, which was actually kind of nice! (And my blog got a facelift… so that’s cool!)

I’m definitely going to try to head up to C-ville this week, because it’s been too long since I’ve seen your face!

Enjoy the shore! I absolutely love it there- also love it’s completely alcohol free {kind of minimizes the jerks}
