Pen Pal Pot o’ Gold

by Sarah on March 30, 2012 · 11 comments

Either Lindsay wanted to send some March magic (as opposed to madness) my way…or somehow the stars aligned over my wannabe leprechaun rainbow…but I found the mythical pot ‘o gold with my Foodie Pen Pal this month! Not only did I get matched up with Heather, whose adventures in flavor pairings rival my own, thereby giving me the perfect excuse to ship her a rather random assortment of goodies (which you’ll have to check out on her broccoli kissin’ blog today)……I had the extreme delight of receiving the pot o’gold disguised as a pen pal package from Rachel, whose naturally frugal family is a source of much creative inspiration (and adorableness).I was so overcome with excitement at just the site of a Rhythm Superfoods package (which I recognized from the back…because I’m awesome) that I immediately threw everything out on the table without rhyme or reason.Only after reading her sweet note was I able to contain my happiness long enough to pose my treasures in a more organized fashion.

Don’t tell me y’all wouldn’t have been as jitterly joyful as I was at the sight of these goodies!

I have been incredibly blessed each month that I have participated in Foodie Pen Pals. I have enjoyed each and every one, but for some reason these specific treats arrived at just the right snackalicious time in my life, so I’ve been able to consume quite a few of them already! The clean, pretty packaging of the travel-sized nutritional yeast looked a lot more professional to rip open and sprinkle on my popcorn at school than the (many times reused) tiny baggie of the stuff I have been carrying around. [It also eliminated any suppositions that I was sprinking an illegal substance onto it...] Stirring coconut oil and (obsessively delicious) date pieces into my oatmeal proved to not only smell just like an oatmeal cookie…but taste a bit like (a slightly tropical) one, too.Can we also talk about what the brilliant idea of pairing the Rhythm Superfoods Sweet Potato Chips (shout out to Austin!) with Trader Joe’s Masala Lentil Dip?I told Rachel I was still “vegan with benefits,” but I’m glad she ignored the no-honey rule of veganism and mailed me some delicious Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Fair Trade Honey…which I promptly used to sweeten my homemade Pistachio Butter. The Roasted Garlic Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Crackers were delicious for dipping into my eggless egg salad (a recipe I’m working on for my next Whole Foods cooking class) at school on Wednesday.I did eat some of the Bear Naked Chocolate Cherry Trail Mix in the way I’m sure it was intended–by hand, from the bag–but I also experimented with sprinkling it on my nightly bedtime bowl of cereal.I ate one of the Tollhouse Cookies–and there is a reason why they are classic–but couldn’t help but give the rest away to my roommate, who had to put his cat down the day after I received the package. :( [The only thing I know to do in a tragedy is feed.]The Justin’s Chocolate Peanut Butter was all mine, however, and I was happy to have it in my Chobani Champions lunchbox as I drove home for Papa Smart’s 60th birthday weekend yesterday. (As someone who has issues with nut butter portion control, I’m thinking I need to make my own travel-sized packages of homemade nut butters…)And while I haven’t actually consumed the Winetime Chocolate Raspberry bar–containing the reservatrol I could get from drinking a glass of wine (or consuming lots and lots of grapes)–I am excited that it is in my school bag…as it’s probably the closest I could ever get to bringing a drink on school ground. ;)

Thank you, Rachel, for being my Lucky Foodie Pen Pal Leprechaun this month!

Where do you ladies find all of these wonderful treats that you mail to each other? Guess I really need to make a pilgrimage to Trader Joe’s. Wegman’s has some interesting things too. Both are at least a 30 minute ride. I live in a Boring Place!!!

What a great gift you got from your foodie pal. If I was that side of the world, I would most certainly have joined. Such a cool concept.

So very glad you enjoyed your treats Sarah! Travel size anything is just cute so I love to stock up on that stuff.

Also glad that the professional pack of Braggs deterred (probably didn’t eliminate) talks of you and illegal substances (I’m guessing the wine bar won’t help either).

Have a great weekend!

Where in the world did Heather FIND All of that cute stuff?!?! Oh my gosh it all looks delicious! (Way better than a Birchbox, haha)

Single serving nut packets are AMAZING. If they were slightly more cost efficient, I’d totally buy them all the time.

That wine-time bar looks so fun!

Good tip on the Trader Joe’s Lentil Masala Dip – I haven’t tried that one yet!
