Weekend ‘Hai’-lights

As we are currently studying the great Japanese tradition of haiku in our fifth grade poetry unit, I have been catching myself thinking in 5-7-5 syllable verses at odd times. [I even found myself unfurling my fingers on the elliptical while counting the beats…] Therfore, it only seems appropriate to present to you the hai(ku)-lights of my weekend.

friday night with friends
 microwave popcorn and wine
became dinner, oops!
road trip to la grange
for saturday wine tasting
expensive tastes, mine
tragically no ‘nubs’
(smart-ism for fancier
wine tasting cracker)
what was more awesome:
john kelly truffle or the
color-coded chart?
northern virginia
means Wawa, beloved stop
decaf coffee called
but also Diet
Coke and Coke Zero mixed up
best to just get both
wawa to wegmans
amazed at my great restraint
fifteen minutes, tops
some men give flowers
but better by far is the
sweet gift of hummus
sunday at lunchtime
visit aromas cafe
meet with an old friend
grilled eggplant? yes please!
made the decision easy
dressing on the side
the Bowl on tonight?
could make snacks and view it
with friends at their house
feeling more like sweats
at home with Afghan curry
and Ryan Gosling
