Yesterday was Cupcake Smackdown 3.0 [for those of you not 'down' with the point O monikers...that would mean, "the third annual"]. I have a sad lack of photos, as I spent the majority of my time at the event checking IDs for the beer sampling, during which time I think it was generally agreed upon that I’d make the worst bouncer ever, as I wanted to talk to everyone about where they were from, comment on their evolving hair styles (including that of the facial variety), and wishing people belated (or anticipated) ‘Happy Birthday’s. My Cowboy Ugly bartending dreams may have been permanently dashed, but at least I looked good in my shirt.*
*I would have looked good in yours, too, Keith Urban.^
^If you didn’t get that allusion, it’s cool. We can’t all have Nashville pop-country obsessions in our past. The amazing shirts (in my signature color) were all thanks to fellow Austin food blogger, Jennie, Queen of the Smackdown, which raised money for the Texas Craft Brewers’ Guild and Keep Austin Dog Friendly.
Despite the heat (and thank you to the random stranger who’s ID I checked that gave me a hair band after I lost mine!), the event—held at the Hops & Grain Brewery—was a HUGE success.
…Beer?
[It was the first time the Live Oak Roggenbier had ever been tasted, apparently. And y'all know I'm not a big beer drinker. But that? Well that was "oh my goll, y'all" good.]
…or CUPCAKES?
Even if, much like a day at the races where you never see a horse, the only cupcakes I saw were painted…
…or shot out of the cupcake cannon?
Quite literally, smacked down.
[There were, of course, other cupcakes available. Austin Cakeball (with a new Mojito flavor for summer!), Hill Country Cupcake, The Cupcake Bar, and Sugar Mama's all represented Austin's cupcake scene at the event.]

mmm, cupcakes! sounds like fun, and I have a feeling I would be an equally bad bouncer… I'm a talker.
beers & cupcakes – how fun! well, honestly, i'd be much more likely to sample the beer but i'm always entertained by human-target cupcake shooting!
my aunt lives in austin, i'll have to ask her if she joined in the festivities!
Sounds like a really fun and rewarding time!
Okay, so you're going to have to forgive me for not introducing myself yesterday. I was volunteering, too, and I recognized you and I got so frazzled trying to figure out how to work that darn iPad that I didn't give you a proper hello. Ack! So nice to meet you in person and also to make the connection here!!
Those poor cupcakes hahaha! I am now hardcore craving some beer and all I have is boring old Heineken. Meh!
the cupcake cannon is hilarious!
That looks like SO much fun!!! I wanna see the cupcake cannon!!! that's seriously too cool
Dang! We went, but got too sweaty and left. Sad I didn't see you!
