Oh, pizza, you’re so yum–
You’re so yum inside my tum!
Hey, Pizza! (yum, yum) Hey, Pizza!

Oh, pizza, how delish!
As delish as one could wish…
Hey, Pizza!
(yum, yum) Hey, Pizza!

Oh, pizza, you’re so nice–
You’re so nice, I ate you thrice!
Hey, Pizza! (yum, yum) Hey, Pizza!

[Her name was Tony BASIL, after all. She
totally should have been singing about pizza.]
Yes, my little Smarties, this has turned into the week o’ pizza here in (and out of) The Smart Kitchen. It all started with my Okra Pizza on Sweet Potato Crust that I made over the weekend.
Don’t panic, Pizzettes! The recipe will come…
This was followed by a Tuesday evening event that reminded me of why I am so happy to be a food blogger and associated with the foodies of Austin. Christian of the Austin Food Journal and Bola Pizza…
…threw an “ACL Recovery Party” featuring his delicious, incredible, yumtastic wood-fired pizza that he bakes in the pizza oven he constructed on the back of a trailer. (The better to cater with, my dear…)
I was pretty much obsessed with the light fixtures in his backyard. Ummmm…hello, lamplight?

But what I was REALLY obsessed with was the PIZZA! Clearly worthy of an…
Oh.
My.
Goll.
Having first had
Bola Pizza at the
Baby Shower Brunch for Addie Broyles, I knew I was in for a treat. My dad’s grilled pizza crust is still my all-time favorite, but this crispy, chewy, doughy goodness I had that night runs a pretty close second.
Bola has nine different pizzas on the catering menu, and at this little shindig we were treated to three varieties.
Teddy and I, of course, had to try them all.
Mushroom: crimini mushroom confit, ricotta, mozzarella, fried shallot, truffle oil
Garlic Two Times: garlic confit, ricotta, mozzarella, shaved garlic, arugula
And my personal favorite (you know I’m a sucker for sauce…):
Sweet & Sow: tomato sauce, figs, pancetta, mozzarella
This pizza is really something you have to try to believe…but it’s delicious. Christian uses really high quality ingredients and the varieties are both creative and crowd-pleasing.

Also crowd-pleasing?
Jennie‘s truffles!
(The pink ones had lychee!)
…and wine, of course.
Just when you would think, “Oh, Sarah, certainly you’re tired of pizza by now.” No, no, my friends. I wanted MORE.
Luckily, I had a voucher from
thelunchdeal.com for
Marye’s Gourmet Pizza…

…where I knew I was in for a treat once I spotted
The Smart Kitchen’s “sign of a restaurant Sarah will like”: the chalkboard menu.

I maximized my money by ordering two “individual” 8-inch pies, both on a thin crust that was quite good: slightly more salty that typical, crispy, and yet still soft enough to have that nice ‘chew’ I like.

The first was the
Garden Club, where underneath all of that Fontina was a medley of summer squash, spinach, corn, and a whole lot of garlic (wish there were more veggies, but it was a delicious white pizza overall).

My second was a creation from my brain: eggplant, artichokes, red pepper, spinach, and yummmmmy tomato sauce.

Is it egotistical to say that the one I “created” was astonishingly good? Granted, I didn’t actually make it, but man alive, eggplant and artichokes on pizza are a wonderful combination. I could have used a whole lot more of them, actually. But I’m a topping-and-sauce girl…
less cheese, more goodies!
And perhaps even MORE pizza? (I do have a whole lot of leftovers.)

i really think you read my mind.
i'm posting a new pizza recipe tomorrow that was "tha bomb" as we used to say. (i may or may not still say it in private)
Well just wait until you see the birthday fare I'm making myself that I will post tonight! It also involves pizza and wine! Surely that will be more impressive, and make me happier! Ha.
And you could always give dare a shot! Don't put yourself into a box.
Furthermore, ACL. BLECH! Definitely one thing I don't miss about Austin. I hated stuff like that and all the massive, crazy traffic and tourists that came with it. Needless to say, I never went to one and maybe I missed out but that's just too many people for me.
Haha! I love this post, so fun
I really want that sweet potato crust, though…
I shall be walking around the rest of the day singing "hey pizza"
I have you to blame… I mean… THANK for that
I am loving your, um, pizza song?!
That pizza looks heavenly! If you are a more toppings kind of gal and in the Houston area, you must try Candelarri's vegetarian pizza! It is INCREDIBLE! Tons of veggies with just the right hint of sauce and cheese. So good!
Those all look so good. I love pizza!
I'm a firm believer that pizza is good anytime any day. Looking at your photos just makes me want a slice so bad and I just ate!
