This Post Is Bananas

Happy Banana Lovers Day!

Isn’t this the perfect day for all healthy food bloggers in the world? I mean, have you ever met a food blogger who doesn’t like bananas? I feel like the one common thread among us all, aside from our love of oatmeal, is the need to eat at least 1/2 a banana every day (hopefully in the form of overnight oats). [If this horrific generalization does not apply to you, please let me know...and I apologize.]

I know Gwen Stefani’s excited. [B-A-N-A-N-A-S]

Do you think this screen shot means she’s a closeted blogger? I bet her blog would be awesome.

This guy is also REALLY pumped up about it.
Speaking of overnight oats*, I created a special batch for today’s festivities.

*Horrific transition, as I had already introduced two entirely different subjects (Gwen Stefani and the monkey wearing a sweater), but whatever. It’s Friday. Let’s be a little loose on the composition rules, shall we?

I call it: Banana Nut Pancake Overnight Oats!
It’s all very simple really…into your (in my case to-go) container, put 1/4 yogurt (if I had had banana yogurt, things would have REALLY gone crazy—I mean, bananas?) and 1/4 milk (mine is coconut).
1/3 cup oats (I have been using quick oats because I ran out of old fashioned and had the other on hand for baking purposes. I didn’t notice a difference at all and forgot until just this moment that I even used something different…I will try to concentrate on the differences more for a better comparison later.) and 1/2 Tbsp. ground flax with 1/2 Tbsp. oat bran…
Of course, we can’t forget the banana!
He wanted to pose first on the red placemat because “red really is his color.” But then he wanted to pose on the windowsill because he swore he “looked a million times better–OMG– in natural light.”
Then he wanted to be put on a pedestal, literally. (We had to settle for this faux-riental vase thingamajig.)
Silly banana, Trix are for kids! [Oops, wrong situation.]

Anyways, I took that pompous banana and cut him up, adding him to the oats.
And because SOMEONE STOLE THE NUTMEG (seriously, it has vanished from our apartment), I went for pumpkin pie spice, which has all things good in it anyway.
And then, a very special friend came to celebrate Banana Lovers Day. Since this batch of oats was inspired by Banana Nut Pancakes, we clearly needed to add some sort of syrupy goodness. Well, how about some natural maple flavoring instead?
Which, yes, was purchased on clearance from TJ Maxx, proving yet again the wisdom of Smart Kitchen Rule #5: You can find good food deals anywhere; don’t be afraid to look in unexpected places.
I could have gone for walnuts, sure…but when you make Banana Nut Pancakes, to me, that means pecans!

Ba-nantastic!

Too bad I wasn’t in my pajamas, like these guys…
Who are clearly celebrating Banana Lovers Day in the land of misspelled-except-in-Britain (perchance?) words. [This party is probably at a shoppe in the towne.]

Maybe I’ll put on my pajamas and go marching down the stairs with the bananas (and if you don’t get that reference, you clearly have not been working with small children within the past 7 years)….or maybe just monkey around with this little fella’:

But don’t worry about my monkey allegiances…why? Well..

You’re my only friend, Abu!

Who?

Is anyone else now singing “One Jump Ahead” from Aladdin?….No? Why is it always just me?

I suggest you just go eat a banana. It’s Friday. We’re all a little bananas on Friday.

Love the British spelling reference that came up several times on our trip last week!
