(Hopefully you know what I mean.)
So, all day, everyone I talked to asked me if I was having a great birthday. Well, yes, yes I was.
I mean, I was at work, sure, but I had a great conversation with my principal, finally brought some GREEN (as in, the color…not a newfangled, innovate recycling and composting system. I mean, I don’t even have a window in the room-we-are-calling-the-”cube” so I clearly will not be doing any gardening) into the room, and, all in all, was feeling very Zen about the whole start of the school year thing.
And my co-worker’s one-year-old daughter laughed at me hysterically for about 5 minutes. For no apparent reason. She just looked at me and started cracking up. I guess I’m funny? (Funny looking?)
So what did you do on your birthday besides work, Sarah? Go wild and crazy?
People. This is ME we are talking about….
I DID have some liquid crack. Then I forced my friends to go grocery shopping for my birthday, as it is my favorite activity.
When I asked Kathleen if that was weird, she replied, “Didn’t you once refer to the Whole Foods flagship store as Mecca?”
We were actually there for the Wednesday night free wine-and-cheese tastings. [The extensive search for bacon vinaigrette salad dressing and my purchase of some more Clif Z Bars was just a bonus.]
Kathleen, Cara, and I got right to work…
…and then Teddy and Shannon found us, and so we of course had to sample everything a second time! Happy Birthday to ME! [Note: do not go wine tasting on an empty stomach and then try to leave the grocery store thinking you won't want to buy lots of unnecessary items.]
We weren’t done yet. Too much dairy? Never. What do I love more than grocery stores? FROZEN YOGURT of course!
We walked over to The Yogurt Spot, where we met Amanda, who so kindly surprised me by purchasing my fro-yo.
I think what was in there was a bit of plain tart, green tea, tiki taro, birthday cake (of course), Reese’s peanut butter, Oreo cookies ‘n cream….and then some dark chocolate nonpareils, Heath bar, peanut butter cups, and brownie bites. Oh, and mochi balls! (My favorite!) Weird, but delicious as usual.
After fro yo, I came home to find a 6’5″ Dutch boy* standing around our door. [Don't worry, he was friends with my roommate. Still, you don't expect new arrivals from Holland to show up on your doorstep everyday. Granted, he had e-mail us. I just forgot.]
*Sadly, not here to paint.
Our exchange went something like this:
Him: You must be Sarah!
Me: Yes, yes I am.
Him: Happy Birthday! We must kiss!
Me: Umm..what?
Him: One [Kiss on the cheek], Two [Kiss on the cheek]
Me: How European!
Him: Well, in the rest of Europe they kiss twice. In Holland we normally kiss three times
Him: But since we just met….I’ll give you these cookies instead.Y’all, they tasted like waffles and syrup! No joke. So good. Apparently they were made with “special” Dutch molasses….I did not notice any hallucinogenic side effects.
And how exciting….I (of course) bought myself a present!I know, I know…do you really need another camera? Well, yes, yes I do. My small dig-cam broke when I was in Mexico at Christmas, and then I bought my sweet Canon Digital SLR. Then I started blogging as a way to use my camera, but before long I wanted to have a camera with me everywhere. The Canon is getting a little banged around, so I found a GREAT GREAT GREAT deal on this little baby, and I have been using it all week (in addition to my Canon).
AND it has a FOOD setting! (How cool is that?) AND a built-in, easy-to-access macro mode.AND I can now take pictures of myself because of the wide lens!

I'm glad I have companions in the "addicted to fizzy poison" boat.
Happy belated birthday!
I'd like a random Dutch boy to stand on my doorstep, give me cookies and kiss me!
Is there a website where you can order this? lol
I LOVED that we went to WF for your bday! The first time I ever visited austin I literally spent about 2-3 HOURS in the store. Happy day-after-your-birthday
Happy (belated) birthday–although it's not really belated if it's birthday week, right? Glad you enjoyed! Free wine and cheese tasting? Yes, please. That's awesome.
Mmm, fro-yo. What a sweet little camera! I've started taking my small point and shoot everywhere with me – so you are totally justified in having two cameras!
aww your birthday celebration was perfect! Can't wait to continue the celebrations on Friday!
I think you celebrated in a wonderful way! Congrats on the new camera
Happy belated birthday!!! And yes, there's no better place to get massive amounts of birthday wishes from people you hardly ever talk to than over Facebook.
Looks like you had an awesome birthday!! I would have totally gone to Whole Foods as a bday present to myself, too..if only the people there would buy the groceries for you as a bday gift!
